Singer Chama Fumba aka Pilato granted bail

Lusaka Principle Resident Magistrate Mwaka Mikalile has granted musician Chama Fumba aka Pilato K30, 000 cash bail and two working sureties in management positions.
Pilato is facing a charge of the unlawful assembly together with Laura and four others but jumped bail after fleeing the country following death threats from ‘PF’ elements.

He was arrested upon his return to Zambia last week and today appeared before Magistrate Mikalile for ruling on his bail application.
Pilato had earlier tendered in video evidence before the court showing how his life was being threatened after he released a song titled Koswe mumpoto. The song annoyed PF members who accused Pilato of referring to their president Edgar Lungu as a thieving ‘Koswe mumpoto,’ (rat in the pot).

Magistrate Mikalile said after viewing the video evidence it was clear that Pilato’s life had been threatened and proceeded to grant him bail.
Magistrate Mikalile further condemned the police for not taking action and protecting Pilato despite him having reported the threats to them.

The court has set June 15th, 2018 as the date for commencement of trial. UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and his vice Geoffrey Mwamba were also in attendance in court to offer solidarity to Pilato.
