Economist, Shabdin Mweemba says the planned provision of affordable loans by the government to promote entrepreneurship as set in the 2021-2026 PF Manifesto is key to economic development and job creation.
Mr. Mweemba says Zambian entrepreneurs have for a long time suffered in accessing finance for their businesses.
He has expressed optimism that the recapitalizing of Zambian-owned banks and non-bank financial institutions to enhance financial inclusion will help in helping increased access to finance.
Mr. Mweemba has told ZNBC News in Lusaka that Covid-19 funds alone are not enough to help entrepreneurs sustain their businesses.
He said the government’s role is just to create a conducive environment for entrepreneurs to flourish and create much-needed jobs for the people.
And Buy ZED Chief Executive Officer EVANS NGOMA welcomed the government’s plans to compel foreign-owned supermarkets to stock local products as highlighted in the manifesto.
Mr. NGOMA said the move is timely as it will help many local people grow their businesses.
He further called for increased production among local farmers whom he advised taking advantage of the move when implemented.
