Tobi Amusan of Nigeria sets a world record in the hurdles

(BBC) At the World Athletics Championships in the United States, Tobi Amusan of Nigeria took home gold in the women’s 100-meter hurdles.

With a time of 12.12 seconds, the 25-year-old shattered the world record during the semifinals. She surpasses the previous record of 12.20 seconds set in 2016 by American Kendra Harrison, who came in second place to Amusan.

Two hours later, Amusan won the gold in the final.

Although she ran even faster in the final (12.06 seconds), a significant tailwind prevented the time from being officially recorded.

As the Nigerian song played at the Hayward Field stadium in Eugene, Oregon, for unquestionably the best and proudest night of these championships for Nigeria, tears of delight streamed down her cheeks.
