Traditional leaders hail govt for livestock empowerment

Traditional leaders in North Western province have commended government for empowering citizens throughout the country with livestock.

Chief Ntambu and Chief Sailunga of the lunda speaking people in Mwinilunga District stated that empowerment of livestock will contribute to the economic growth of their chiefdoms and the nation as a whole.

Chief Ntambu says Zambia can only develop when people are given the right resources to address the challenges affecting them.

And Chief Sailunga has praised President Edgar Lungu for taking development to all parts of the country.

Chief Sailunga says the distribution of the livestock is creating income, food and nutrition security amongst rural communities.

The chief says he is ready to give out land in his area to people especially women who have been empowered with livestock.

The traditional leaders were speaking at their respective palaces when Fisheries and Livestock Minister Nkandu Luo paid a courtesy call of them.

And Prof. Luo said the livestock sector is key to Zambia’s economic development and wealth creation at household level.

She said government has put in place all the measures necessary for the development of the livestock sector.

Prof Luo said government has built livestock infrastructure across the country and is currently distributing livestock to grow the sector.
