NAMIBIAN IMMIGRATION officials have arrested a Zambian national, Paul Munanjala, popularly known as Paul Da Prince, for being in that country illegally.

Musician Paul Da Prince has been involved in various entertainment presenting jobs in Namibia.

He was also working for the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) national radio while NBC employees are on strike demanding better salaries and working conditions.

It is unclear whether his arrest was triggered by complaints by NBC staff who are pointing fingers at some colleagues for selling them out on the strike.

Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security executive director Etienne Maritz confirmed on Friday that Munanjala had been arrested at the Ariamsvlei border post on Wednesday for contravening the Immigration Control Act.

Munanjala allegedly went to Namibia to study.

“The ministry does not have any record of the application for a study permit from Munanjala, which means he never applied for a study permit,” said Maritz.

He said Munanjala applied for a work permit on 6 October 2020 and it was rejected.

“Currently he is not in the possession of a work permit,” Maritz said.

Maritz said non-Namibian nationals who wish to take up employment in the country either on a temporary basis or by freelancing need to apply for an employment permit before engaging in any type of work.

He said the law would take its course with any person found illegally in Namibia.
