Zambia and Malawi swap prisoners

31 Malawians who were imprisoned in Zambia have now been transferred to Malawi as part of a prisoner swap between Zambia and Malawi.

Nine Zambians serving in Malawi returned home as a result of the transfer.

The prisoners will now complete their individual sentences in their own nations.

Zambia Correctional Service deputy commissioner PAUL SIMASIKU said the exchange program illustrates the commitment by the two governments to safeguard the rights of the detainees while speaking during the transfer of prisoners at the Mwami border this morning.

Additionally, the activity is important for managing corrections, according to Malawi Prisons Service Commissioner for Operations WISCOT MASAUKO.

According to Mr. Masauko, the exchange program lessens recidivism and the ensuing jail congestion.
