Zambia to Host Africa-Asia Luminary Virtual Conference

Zambia will from 27th to 29th April, 2021 host the 8th Edition of the Merck Foundation Africa Asia Luminary Virtual Conference. Zambia is hosting the conference using virtual platforms in line with coronavirus health guidelines.

The annual conference will be officially opened by President Edgar Lungu, and the first Lady Esther Lungu will co-chair the meeting. The three day conference whose main objective is to contribute to social and economic development of Africa and Asia will benefit more than 2000 Healthcare providers, policy makers, academia, researchers and health media from more than 70 African, Asian, and Latin American countries.

The conference that will be attended by First Ladies from 19 African countries will have educational and social development sessions in four languages that include English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. Selected Ministers led by Minister of Health will also look at priority developmental issues.

Top science International experts will lead special sessions in Diabetes, Oncology, Women Health and Fertility, Cardiology, Respiratory and Acute Medicine and Heath Media.
The Luminary Conference will also mark the announcement of two awards for the media fraternity which include the Merck Foundation Africa Media Recognition Awards “More Than a Mother” 2021 and Merck Foundation “Mask up with Care” Media Recognition Awards 2021.

Countries participating in the 8th Merck Africa Asia Luminary Conference include: Angola, Bangladesh, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Canada, Central Africa Republic, Cambodia, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, France, Gabon, Germany, Ghana, Guinea – Bissau, Guinea – Conakry, India, and Indonesia.

Others are Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Malaysia, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mexico, Mozambique, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, Niger, Nigeria, Peru, Philippines, Russia.
Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Tanzania, Thailand, The Gambia, Togo, Tunisia, U.A.E, UK, Uganda, US, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.
This is according to Health Minister, Dr. Jonas Chanda.
