21

Ruth Chayinda-The Zambia Congress Trade Unions -ZCTU- has launched its first ever Workers’ manifesto with the aim of promoting workers’ full rights.

Speaking to ZNBC News, ZCTU Secretary General COSMAS MUKUKA says it is important that political parties incorporate the decent work agenda so that the country can gain economic growth and also contribute to building an economy that puts people first.

Mr. MUKUKA says the manifesto contains specific demands and aspirations for workers, further stating that the Zambian worker lives a life dominated by low pay and insecurity.

He says the manifesto will also speak into the aspirations of the nation and demand for employment that respects the fundamental rights of the human person safety, remuneration and respect for the physical and mental integrity of the worker.

Mr. MUKUKA said there is also need for workplaces to invest in the social protection of workers.
