Less than 20,000 people, according to Zesco, are currently waiting for a power connection.
The power utility firm, according to managing director VICTOR MAPANI, claims that this is a significant reduction given that there were previously 67,000 persons on the waiting list.
According to Mr. MAPANI, the backlog began in 2014.
He claims that ZAFFICO and CFC’s shortage of poles caused a delay in the company’s ability to install poles despite efforts to raise money for them.
At a special gathering for the heads of quasi-government organizations and statutory bodies, Mr. MAPANI made this statement.
Speaking at the same occasion, Herrick Mpuku, Executive Director of the Zambia Institute for Policy Analysis and Research (ZIPAR), suggested separating political office holders from statutory entities so that they can make decisions independently.
NGOSA CHISUPA, a representative of the Institute of Directors, added that statutory and quasi-governmental institutions must be judicious in their use of resources and restrain their indulgent spending.
