-The Zambia Revenue Authority -ZRA- has embarked on a nationwide construction of Provincial offices in all Provincial Centres to enhance tax collection.
ZRA Commissioner General KINGSLEY CHANDA says the move is also aimed at enhancing service delivery across the country.
Speaking to Journalists after touring the newly constructed ZRA Office in Muchinga’s Provincial capital Chinsali, Mr. CHANDA said the facility initially targeted at collecting domestic taxes will also house an it smuggling unit to curb smuggling.
He said ZRA officers will in the next two weeks move to the new facility with official launch set for between mid and end of this month by President EDGAR LUNGU.
The ZRA Chief also expressed happiness that a local Contractor InvestCorp Zambia Limited was engaged and managed to deliver quality works.
He also revealed that Choma and other Provincial centres will soon see similar works commence. And ZRA Director Administration CALLISTUS KAOMA said the initial cost of the project was 8 point 7 million kwacha but shot to 10 point 9 million kwacha owing to variation in prices caused by the outbreak of Covid-19 and some minor expansion.
And InvestCorp Project Manager MOSES NACHULA said the project has reached 98-percent and is ready for handwover.
Mr. NACHULA said the building was supposed to be handed over by December last year but had asked for an detention because Covid-19 affected their works.
He said the global pandemic led to prices variations also affected timely delivery of imported materials because of various restrictions.
