A Lusaka student in Grade 10 was allegedly sexually assaulted in a car after the cab driver who picked her up made her drunk before allegedly turning on her.
The victim, a 17-year-old girl, was on her way to school on a rainy Friday when George Banda, 31, of the Zingalume compound, offered to drive her there so she wouldn’t get wet.
However, Banda took her in a different way in his Toyota Vitz and led her to a remote location where he reportedly raped her after offering her booze.
“Police preliminary investigations revealed that the girl left home in Meanwood Phase 3 area around 09:00 hours for School and on her way, a Toyota Vitz stopped and the driver offered her a lift since it was raining.
“The man changed direction and drove his car to an isolated place where he allegedly raped the girl after giving her some drinks suspected to be alcohol,” Police deputy public relations officer Danny Mwale has said.
Concerned bystanders came to the car where they discovered the victim and the Banda in their birth suits and pulled the teenager out.
The child, according to Mr. Mwale, had bleeding in her private areas before being taken urgently to Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital.
