At the ongoing 2023 National Age Group Championship in Lusaka, 10-year-old CHISI MAGUBBWI broke the country’s 50-meter breaststroke record.
Since 2008, the record has been valid.
Moreover, MAGUBBWI stated to ZNBC Sports News that she is thrilled to break the record and hopes to compete in the Olympics.
Meanwhile, the well-attended gala acts as a means of choosing the national team, according to SOPHIE PEACH, general secretary of the Zambia Swimming Union (ZASU).
Zambia plans to send more than 20 swimmers to the CANA Zone Four Championships this year, according to PEACH.
And at the 2023 National Age Group Championship, Kapenta Swimming Club is now leading the medal count.
At day two of the current Championship, which ends tomorrow, the Club produced 60 medals.
The medals gained include 26 gold, 20 silver, and 14 bronze. Torpedo Swim Club is in second place on the standings with 44 medals, followed by LICS Warriors in third with 28 medals.
