A 23-year-old man from the Luangwa district passed away in Mozambique while on a fishing trip with his brother.
Happy Makate and his brother Edwin Makate are thought to have perished in the Mitiminyola fishing camp in Mozambique when a hippo struck the boat they were in.
Thankfully, his sibling was able to swim away from the danger and reach safety.
At Mitiminyola Fishing Camp Site in the Republic of Mozambique, the event took place on March 1st, this year, at 23:00, according to police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale.
“Brief facts are that the deceased together with the brother left Zambia for Mozambique on a fishing expedition ,but as they attempted to put the fishing nets in the waters of the Zambezi for their expected first catch, a hippo hit their boat which later capsized and resulted into the death of Happy Makate while the brother managed to swim to safety,” he said.
He said the body arrived at the harbour today, March 3rd, 2023 at about 00:20 hours and after inspection there were no physical injuries thereby confirming a case of drowning.
