The 400-meter Commonwealth champion MUZALA SAMUKONGA is expected to smash the world record this year, according to athletics national team coach DOUGLAS KALEMBO.
According to KALEMBO, if the sprinter keeps up his current rate of speed, he may break the 400-meter world record.
He claims that SAMUKONGA has had a strong start to the year, racing 45.16 seconds during the Ndola All Comers Meet Championship, which is a promising sign for this year’s main contests.
In an interview with ZNBC Sports News, KALEMBO stated that SAMUKONGA needs more exposure to get ready to compete for medals in all events this year’s major competitions.
He also said that SAMUKONGA will fly to Europe in June of this year for an international camp in an effort to prepare him for particular events.
Wayde van Niekerk of South Africa currently holds the male world record with a timing of 43.03 seconds.
