A Lusaka man was detained for educating “fake” nurses.

A 27-year-old Lusaka man was charged with and taken into custody for allegedly educating nurses and midwives without a license.

Additionally, Muleya Pelekelo has been charged with six charges of collecting money under false pretenses totaling more than K30,000.

Pelekelo is suspected of enrolling the’students’ online between June 1, 2022, and November 25, 2022 at a school called Prister College of Health Sciences and Technology located in the Emmasdale neighborhood, according to police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale.

“He is alleged to have fraudulently obtained money amounting to K33,660 from the six ‘students’ aged between 19 and 26,” he said.

Mr Mwale said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect enrolled unsuspecting ‘students’ who paid but could not access lectures as the institution was not registered with General Nursing Council,” he said.

According to Mr. Mwale, Pelekelo is also said to have given the victims advice to find boarding houses to rent in the neighborhood where the college is situated.

He claimed that when the victims did not receive the instruction the suspect had promised, they contacted the police.

“Police have recovered money amounting to K7,000 from the suspect.He is detained in Police custody awaiting court appearance,”.he said.
