After only five months in office, former Premier League official Mark Clattenburg has resigned as the head of the Egyptian Referees Committee.
On Wednesday, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) declared that it had approved the 47-year-departure old’s from the position.
The Egyptian Football Association stated that its board of directors has decided to accept Mr. Mark Clattenburg’s resignation during its emergency meeting on Wednesday.
The EFA would also work to “preserve the rights of the federation and the repercussions of his resignation in accordance with the provisions of the signed contract,” the statement continued.
Mortada Mansour, the president of the Zamalek club, criticized Clattenburg this week on Zamalek’s own TV channel.
After three seasons in the Football League, Clattenburg was promoted to refereeing games in the Premier League in 2004.
In April 2017, he played his farewell match, where Leicester City defeated West Brom 1-0.
In the same year, he also presided over the Champions League final, in which Real Madrid defeated Atletico Madrid, and the Euro 2016 final, in which Portugal defeated France 1-0.
