Just three months ago, Tony Forbes, the father of the late rapper AKA, publicly defended his son’s friends amid rampant social media speculation. Now, Minister of Police Bheki Cele has confirmed that the star’s killers were known to him. The bombshell allegation was made during the minister’s radio interview on Metro FM.
The muso and friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane were shot and killed by gunmen on 10 February outside a Durban restaurant. While police claim that they are making headway in the murder investigation, the public has drawn their own conclusions about potential suspects. Following his murder in February, several of AKA’s friends have been named and shamed on social media for what fans claim is their “involvement” in the crime. This, following a clip of CCTV footage showing the rapper with his group of pals in the minutes shortly before his shooting.
According to public opinion, a few of AKA’s friends appear to behave suspiciously in the clip. The rapper’s music colleague Nota Baloyi also spread the unfounded rumors, accusing AKA’s friends of benefitting from his death. But Tony Forbes claims the commentary is “uncomfortable” and is encouraging the public not to feed off it.
Without naming names, Tony said in a September interview with eNCA: “We only know them as our son’s friends. We have been consistent in saying there is no evidence. These people have only been good to us.
According to Police Minister Bheki Cele, some of the people involved in the assassination of Kiernan Jarryd Forbes known professionally as “AKA” are very close associates to AKA. pic.twitter.com/9Sew5a3crX

He added: “All we can do is to continue to ask for patience for the authorities to do their work and to stand by his friends”. However, Tony Forbes is not ruling anything out. He added: “If evidence emerges to the contrary, then we will deal with that when it happens. In the meantime, they are essentially part of our family
