When a four-year-old child from Masaiti slipped into a well while gathering water with his six-year-old brother and two friends, he drowned.
According to Copperbelt Province Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba, Daniel Walubita fell into the well while attempting to pull a rope-tied pail of water.
The youngsters were outdoors gathering water on Sunday around 6:00 a.m., while the mother slept inside, according to the police.
“Brief facts are that on Sunday the mother to Daniel Shebah Ndalama 33 was asleep in the house when the Daniel went to draw water at the well with his brother and two friends, while at the well Daniel accidentally fell inside as he tried to pull up a bucket of water using a rope. The elder brother shouted out for help and when his mother heard she rushed to the well and was told that her son had fallen into the well, she saw his slipper and the bucket floating on the water,” he said.
He claimed that his brother dove into the well to try to save Daniel, but he was unsuccessful since it was deep.
After some time, according to Mr. Mweemba, Daniel’s uncle, who had gone to the area after being informed of the incident, dove into the well and pulled the body out.
