A family from Siya village in the Kaoma area has been devastated after five of its members, including a three-year-old boy, were killed by lightning on Friday.
The family was lounging in their small hut that served as their kitchen at about 15:30 when lightning struck and set it on fire.
The members were named by police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale as Eliza Namutula, 52, Mulonda Kashembe, 29, Namakau Silwendo, 28, Muyunda Kashembe, 12, and Borniface Mashewa, 3.
“Police officers visited the scene and have since deposited the bodies of the deceased in Kaoma District Hospital mortuary waiting for postmortem and burial. An inquiry file has been opened,” Mwale said.
Mwale said there were efforts to save the victims by members of the public but the attempts were unsuccessful.
