Contractors at FQM Trident Limited in Kalumbila District have been charged with encouraging casualization.
According to GIVENS MUNTENGWA, the Labour Commissioner, contractors frequently hire temporary workers rather than permanent ones who are eligible for retirement benefits.
Mr. MUNTENGWA additionally said that contractors at Trident Mine prevented their workers from joining unions when he spoke with the mine’s management.
The contractors at Trident Mine have been urged to give workers permanent, pensionable employment, according to Mine Workers Union of Zambia President JOSEPH CHEWE.
