In book, Prince Harry accuses Prince William of striking him

According to the Guardian, which claims to have read a copy of the duke’s upcoming memoir, Spare, Prince Harry has alleged that his brother Prince William physically assaulted him.

According to the publication, the book details a dispute between the two over Prince Harry’s wife Meghan.

The Guardian quotes Harry as saying, “He grabbed me by the collar, ripped my chain, and he knocked me to the floor.”

According to Kensington Palace, “there is nothing to say.”

Spare has not yet been seen by BBC News. A request for comment has not yet received a response from Buckingham Palace, which stands in for the King’s household.

The memoir won’t be released until next Tuesday, but the Guardian reported that it was able to get a copy despite “strict pre-launch security.”

The Guardian reports that the book claims comments Prince William made to Prince Harry at his London home in 2019 were the cause of the argument.

According to the newspaper, Prince Harry claims that Prince William criticized his marriage to Meghan Markle and called her “difficult,” “rude,” and “aggressive.”

According to reports, as the altercation progressed, the Duke of Sussex wrote that his brother was “parrot[ing] the press story.”

The events that followed, including an alleged physical altercation, are reportedly described by Prince Harry.

“He set down [a glass of] water, called me another name, then came at me. It all happened so fast. So very fast.

“He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, & he knocked me to the floor.

“I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet & told him to get out.”

The Guardian’s US website’s story’s author, Martin Pengelly, claimed he did not contact Prince William’s press office.

The author of the piece claimed that it is “a report on Harry’s book, which he wrote, and it is Harry’s narrative.”

Mr Pengelly told BBC Radio 5 Live: “We carefully, obviously in reporting it, didn’t call it a fight because Harry says he didn’t fight back.

Prince Harry writes that his brother urged him to hit back and he refused to do so, according to the Guardian, but Prince William later looked “regretful, and apologised”.

As recently as September 2019, images show Prince Harry wearing a black necklace frequently at occasions like the Invictus Games and while traveling abroad with Meghan.

The authenticity of the stolen book excerpts has not yet been confirmed by the book’s publishers at Penguin Random House, although Prince Harry has recently discussed his tumultuous relationship with his brother.

Prince Harry talks about a meeting he had with his brother and father, the current King, in the Harry and Meghan Netflix documentary about the couple.

The early 2020 conference, which the late Queen also attended, was dubbed “terrifying” by Prince Harry.

It was terrible, he said, to hear his brother yell at me, hear his father say things that were plainly untrue, and see his grandmother just sit there and sort of take it all in.

Following the funeral of his grandfather, Prince Phillip, in April 2021, according to The Guardian, Prince Harry describes a meeting with Charles, the then Prince of Wales, and Prince William.

The newspaper quotes Prince Harry as saying that his father intervened between him and Prince William and begged them not to “make my dying years miserable.”

The prince stated in a trailer for a sit-down interview that will air on January 8 before the book is released, “I would like to get my father back and I would like to get my brother back.”

It was unclear to whom Prince Harry was talking when he told ITV’s Tom Bradby that “they’ve showed absolutely no willingness to reconcile.”

On this, Buckingham Palace chose not to respond.

Spare, a multi-million dollar book contract that memoirist JR Moehringer ghostwrote, was originally thought to be shrouded in the strictest secrecy with little information known about its substance.

“For Harry, this is his story at last,” Penguin Random House said in a publicity statement back in October.

“With its raw, unflinching honesty, Spare is a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.”
