After jackal bites on people and domestic animals, the Department of Veterinary Services in Northern Province has declared a rabies outbreak there.
SYDNEY KALENGA, a provincial veterinary officer, reports that the District has documented five incidents of jackal-human bites, three for goats, and four for dogs.
According to Dr. KALENGA, the Kasama, Mungwi, and Senga Hill Districts have rabies cases on record.
He claims that post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) is being administered as human victims are evaluated and directed to health centers.
In a statement, Dr. KALENGA said his organization is coordinating with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife to handle the problem.
