Mzansi rapper and TV host Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye has taken to social media to share his side of the story regarding the Moses Kotane Arts Festival.

The festival that was scheduled to take place at Moruleng Stadium from 3 to 4 December was cancelled, leaving fans disappointed.

Jub Jub from Soweto told the publication that he wanted the festival to benefit young local people, but some people wanted to use his brand to benefit themselves.

This is after stories came out, claiming that Jub Jub was the reason the festival did not happen the way locals wanted it to be.

But Jub Jub claims he was shooting Uyajola 9/9 when some changes regarding the festival were done behind his back.

“People are just jealous because they can’t do what I do. I am not going to sit down and let people use my name like that,” he said.

The musician said he was tired of being accused of things he doesn’t of.

On Tuesday, 6 December, Jub Jub uploaded a video on Instagram saying he wasn’t happy with how his name and brand were being used by some people who wanted to benefit from the festival.

“When I do something, I make sure that it benefits everyone. Some people wanted to use this event to their own benefit and not to help the locals, and I wouldn’t let that happen,” Jub Jub said.

“There are lots of videos circulating all over social media platforms about what happened and I just want to put the record straight,” he said.

Jub Jub said they had an agreement that the event should benefits local people, and not take something away from them.

“We wanted the people of Moses Kotane to be proud of their heritage,” he said.

He said he wasn’t there when the event was finalized.

“I wasn’t available as I was busy shooting Uyajola 9/9.I felt like my name was being used, and there is a lot of misinformation regarding this event,” he said.

One of the promoters, Keabetswe Mokoena, told the SunTeam that their aim with this event was to promote young artists from North West.

“We reach out to different artists and our plan was to use Jub Jub as the face of the Moses Kotane Arts Festival this year. Nex year, we were going to use another big brand,” she said.

She said the reason things did not go well with Jub Jub is that he wanted to add other musicians on the line-up while they were done with it.

She said they told him that it wasn’t going to work.

“We also didn’t agree on the issue of him wanting to bring different people who will promote the event from Joburg while the event is in North West,” said Keabetswe.

Berlina Lekgetwane, head of communications at Moses Kotane Municipality, said she couldn’t comment on the matter.

Acting mayor Bushy Manganye said they didn’t agree on a few things, which resulted in them not working together.

“We needed him to help young talent and give them hope,” he said.
