According to the 2022 Livestock Survey, illnesses have remained the main concern to the livestock industry.
According to the poll, which was carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with ZAMSTATS, Swine Fever and Foot and Mouth are the most common illnesses farmers in the country are now dealing with, with Southern and Copperbelt Provinces leading the list.
The report’s launch speaker, MAKOZO CHIKOTE, Minister of Cattle and Fisheries, called for coordinated action to address illnesses and other issues that threaten the livestock industry.
To increase the sector’s production, Mr. CHIKOTE claimed that initiatives for disease control and other elements must be put in place.
In order to promote evidence-based and efficient service delivery, the Minister also encouraged the sector to conduct surveys on an annual basis.
He claimed that surveys are essential for the growth of the industry and for enhancing its contribution to the GDP.
MULENGA MUSEPA, the interim general statistician for ZAMSTATS, asked policymakers to pay attention to the findings of surveys carried out by various ministries for the good of the nation.
Mr. MULENGA observed that there is a disconnect between the important use of information gleaned through surveys and research and its dissemination.
