On Lake Kariba, a clinical officer working at the Munyama Rural Health Center in the Siavonga District has perished.
Brocklin Mtonga, 27, perished after the dugout boat he was in capsized close to the harbor at Munyama Health Center, according to police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale.
According to the circumstances, the victim had gone to Matente Village to play football, and on the way home, he had chosen to use a canal and board a dugout boat being rowed by Milimo Buleke, also from Munyama Village.
Initial investigations, according to Mr. Mwale, show that their dugout boat filled with water while they were paddling into the bay close to Munyama Health Center, causing it to capsize.
“His colleague managed to swim to safety while the victim went down together with the canoe,” he said.
Mr Mwale said the incident occurred on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 around 18:00 hours on Lake Kariba near Munyama Rural Health Centre in Siavonga District. “The body was retrieved around 22:00 hours. Police have opened an Inquiry File to establish the actual cause of the incident,” he said.
