A new-born baby who was purportedly dropped in the Mapepo School grounds by unidentified people has been picked up by an NDOLA woman.
The baby, who is said to be three days old, was discovered naked on the school grounds.
According to Copperbelt Province Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba, Bernadette Mwila, 38, noticed the infant while returning home from the market.
According to Mr. Mweemba, the infant was found yesterday about 21:00.
Ms Mwila was coming from Mushili Market where she does business and as she was going home using a route that cuts across school grounds, she found a newborn baby boy suspected to be three days old dumped by an unknown person in the grass naked. She picked the baby, took it home and wrapped it in warm clothes and later she reported the matter to the police,” he said.
The infant has been brought to Arthur Davidson Children’s Hospital (ADCH) for medical evaluations, according to Mr. Mweemba.
He added that authorities have not stopped looking into the incident.
