The development of diverse sports disciplines that will create top athletes requires additional expenditures in sports infrastructure, according to Minister of Sports ELVIS NKANDU.
Speaking after visiting a number of the country’s sporting venues, NKANDU claimed that Zambia could learn from Malawi, which has held five regional competitions.
According to NKANDU, the OYDC in Lusaka lacks enough infrastructure and does not meet industry standards; as a result, additional sports complexes must be created in order to successfully hold major international competitions.
He added that OYDC would be enhanced to accommodate all athletic disciplines.
The minister claimed that Malawi has improved in a number of sports as a result of better sports facilities, which is a path Zambia needs to go in.
With the assistance of the business and private sectors, he claimed, Zambia could have top-notch sporting facilities dispersed throughout the nation.
The African athletic championships will be held in Zambia the following year.
