Results of the 2022 Transparency International Corruption Perception Index, according to Director General of the Anti-Corruption Commission TOM SHAMAKAMBA, demonstrate that the level of corruption in Zambia has not increased from prior years.
According to Mr. SHAMAKAMBA, the fact that the score has remained at 33 points for a third year running indicates that corruption’s channels and possibilities are steadily being closed up.
Mr. SHAMAKAMBA stated that the index is proof that the anti-corruption policies put in place over the past several years are effective while speaking during the unveiling of the index by Transparency International Zambia in Lusaka this morning.
However, he asserts that the Commission is committed to prosecuting anyone who may have engaged in corruption-related crimes in the past or present.
In order to ensure openness and accountability in the lifestyles of such people, Mr. SHAMAKAMBA contends that the regulations governing Declaration of Assets for public figures nominated to public and state offices ought to be strengthened.
