Gianni Infantino, the president of Fifa, opened the Kigali Pele Stadium on Wednesday in memory of the late Brazilian football hero.
The multi-sport facility, formerly known as Kigali Regional Stadium, has a capacity of 22,000 spectators.
President Paul Kagame oversaw the stadium’s opening, which took place concurrently with the 73rd Fifa Congress in Kigali.
According to The Daily Times, President Kagame praised Mr. Infantino for allowing the nation to honor Mr. Pele by giving the stadium his name.
The decision, according to Mr. Infantino, is the greatest approach to preserve Mr. Pele’s memories of football.
Pele passed away, but he is always with us, according to Mr. Infantino.
