CHIKONDI The alleged murderer of Banda has admitted that his goal in killing the child was to extort money from the parents.
Chikondi, 10, was last week reported missing and then discovered dead in a corn field in Lusaka’s Emmasdale neighborhood.
Some locals who were harvesting maize came across the juvenile’s body.
Additionally, police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale reported that one suspect, Nalukui Akafekwa, 24, of Garden compound, described to officers how he picked up the 10-year-old boy from school during interrogations of the three suspects who were detained yesterday in connection with the boy’s murder.
According to Mr. Mwale, the suspect informed police that he picked up Chikondi on March 17, 2023, killed him, and then discarded the body nearby a corn field in the Emmasdale neighborhood.
“The suspect revealed that the boy was murdered on March 17, 2023 between 20:00 hours and 21:00 hours.
Nalukui led police officers to where he committed the crime from and also revealed that his motive was to get money from the boy’s parents,” he said.
According to Mr. Mwale, Nalukui and the deceased’s family members reside in the same Garden Compound area.
He claimed, “He is in Police custody awaiting formal charges.”
Two other suspects, according to Mr. Mwale, are currently being held in jail.
