In order to provide direction on the administration of volunteers in Zambia, the government has released the first-ever National Volunteers Policy.
The Policy is a policy and legislative framework for volunteer activities in Zambia, according to Minister of Community Development and Social Services DOREEN MWAMBA.
According to Ms. MWAMBA, the Policy will also strive to harmonize rewards for volunteers across the nation, irrespective of the organization they work for.
The Minister made this statement today, on International Volunteers Day, which is being observed under the theme “Solidarity through volunteerism,” at the official Lusaka launch of the National Volunteer Policy.
The unveiling of the Policy, according to UN Resident Coordinator BEATRICE MUTALI, is a historic accomplishment since it establishes a social contract that addresses the needs of Volunteers and the Communities they serve.
More than 100 volunteers work for the UN in Zambia, according to Ms. Mutali, and the international organization will support Zambia as it implements a policy that encourages volunteering there.
