The United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres says the situation in Gaza is a disaster. Addressing the media yesterday, he says the military campaign has been chaotic in nature, and the level of humanitarian aid is out of proportion with the need.
Guterres says law and order has disappeared and convoys are looted in Gaza. He says he has not reached out to Israel Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu who is in the United States (US). Guterres says Netanyahu did not say anything new before the US Congress, and two two-state solution is key for peace in the region.
“There is nothing said yesterday that is new and obviously, we absolutely must keep the two-state solution as the only possible long-term for peace in the region independently,” he adds. Guterres says this has been a week of unprecedented heat.
He says billions of people globally are facing an extreme heat epidemic.
Guterres says extreme heat is increasingly tearing through economies and widening inequalities. He says excessive heat is the cause of almost 23 million workplace injuries worldwide.
“This past Sunday, Monday and Tuesday were there three hottest days on record but lets face facts; extreme temperatures are no longer one day, one week, or one month phenomenon. If there is one thing that unites our divides (in) the world is that we are all increasingly feeling the heat. Billions of people are facing an extreme heat epidemic.
