Out of 600 veterinary surgeons in Zambia, just 143 have renewed their licenses to practice this year.
Additionally, 244 out of 2,000 veterinary paraprofessionals have registered this year.
SIMAKECHULA CHIKUNI, Registrar of the Veterinary Council of Zambia, reports that the Council has observed a poor response to registration and renewal of practicing licenses this year.
According to Dr. CHIKUNI, it is the duty of every employer to make sure that all officers hired are registered with and licensed by the council.
Additionally, he stated that by 3 MARCH 2023, all veterinarians and veterinary paraprofessionals, whether working for the public or commercial sector, shall register or renew their licenses.
