285,000 dollars have been made available by the World Health Organization (WHO) to help with the ongoing cholera outbreak response in Eastern Province.
The funds made available, according to WHO Country Representative NATHAN BAKYAITA, will enable WHO and partners to step up priority response initiatives for efficient monitoring and management of the outbreak.
According to Dr. BAKYAITA, WHO is collaborating with the Ministry of Health and the Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI) as part of the outbreak response to quickly implement interventions that will protect people and prevent the outbreak from spreading to additional districts throughout the province.
This is in accordance with a statement made by WHO Zambia Communications Officer KAFUSHA KAPEMA to ZNBC News in Lusaka.
According to Dr. BAKYAITA, strengthened coordination, improved surveillance, and care delivery are just a few of the essential preparedness, response, and prevention strategies that must be in place for the outbreak to be contained and put an end to it.
