Zambia Railways is troubled by the careless way that trash is being thrown away along the rail line in Lusaka.
According to ZNBC news, Chawama and the John Howard neighborhoods are the most severely damaged, according to ZRL Acting Public Relations Manager SOMBE LONGWANI.
Garbage, according to Ms. LONGWANI, disrupts Zambia Railways’ operations and, should it catch fire, could lead to an accident.
However, FRANCIS YAMBAYAMBA, a resident of Chawama, claimed that because there aren’t any designated dumping locations, people end up throwing their trash around.
And IMUWANA MWANAMWALE, Company Executive Officer of Lusaka Integrated Solid Waste Management Company, claimed that residents who refuse to pay for pickup are to blame for the waste that has accumulated.
