Zambian Army and Police deny allegations that four troops were battered by mob in Ndola

THE Zambia Army Zambia police have refuted claims that four Army soldiers were found escorting two trucks loaded with mealie meal in Ndola.

The two security wings have further refuted that the four soldiers were beaten by a mob stating that no such records are with either the police nor the army.

On Wednesday Copperbelt Province commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba in a statement told journalists that four alleged armed Zambia Army soldiers were beaten by fellow officers after they were caught giving an illegal escort to mealie meal smugglers who were trying to sneak the commodity into Congo.

Mr Mweemba said the four who were in a scheme involving over 1,000 bags of mealie meal allegedly pocketed K10,000 each to give an escort to the trucks into the Democratic Republic of Congo using one of the borders in Ndola.

However, the claims have been denied in a joint statement by Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale and Army spokesperson Colonial Martin Kalaluka Liyungu

The four troops were allegedly pummeled by a mob, but the two security wings have further denied this, claiming that neither the police nor the army has any records of such an incident.

After being caught providing an illegal escort to mealie meal smugglers who were attempting to smuggle the product into Congo, four allegedly armed members of the Zambian army were beaten by other officers, according to Copperbelt Province commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba.

According to Mr. Mweemba, the four involved in a scam involving more than 1,000 bags of mealie meal allegedly pocketed K10,000 apiece to serve as an escort for the trucks as they crossed one of the borders into the Democratic Republic of the Congo through Ndola.

However, the claims have been refuted in a joint statement from Army spokesperson Colonial Martin Kalaluka Liyungu and Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale.
