When the initial contracts with 33 local councils expire, the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) is anticipated to renew them this week.
According to ZRA Acting Commissioner General JOSEPH NONDE, the agency wants to keep collaborating with the local governments so they can continue to levy taxes on the unorganized sector.
According to Mr. NONDE, the authority is not present in all districts and is now depending on the 33 councils to assist it in raising money.
The tax collecting agency between ZRA and local authorities, which has been in operation since September 2020, was being reviewed during the session where he made this statement.
Additionally, MAAMBO HAAMAUNDU, the Permanent Secretary for Local Government and Rural Development, advised ZRA to use ICTs for tax collection.
ICTs, according to Mr. HAAMAUNDU, are more efficient and simple to use.
