In order to safeguard the interests of Zambians, particularly those on the Copperbelt, Zambians for Unity, Peace, and Development (ZUPD) has encouraged the government to expedite negotiations with Vedanta on Konkola Copper Mines (KCM).
Many people on the Copperbelt have lost their jobs as a result of the seizure of KCM, according to ZUPD President RONNIE JERE, who spoke to reporters at a press briefing.
According to Mr. JERE, Vedanta used to employ more than 13,000 people, but today only has around 4,000 employees, leaving many Copperbelt residents without jobs.
When the previous administration banned Vedanta Operations on Mining, he said politics were at play.
President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has since received praise from Mr. JERE for taking it upon himself to see that problems at KCM are quickly rectified.
