13 Cars with bogus registration numbers Seized by police

In Lusaka, thirteen automobiles that may contain fraudulent registration numbers have been impounded.

The operation to seize the automobiles aims to reduce the number of motor vehicle theft cases, which have become increasingly common, particularly in the nation’s capital.

In the course of the operation, police also detained four individuals who had drugs hidden inside their cars.

According to police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale, the operation was carried out on Friday and Saturday of last week between 11:00 and 17:00 in several locations in Lusaka.

According to Mr. Mwale, some owners of vehicles abandoned them during the operation when they saw police officials checking them out at various locations.

“Police in Lusaka impounded 13 motor vehicles suspected to have fake registration numbers. This was during an operation aimed at curbing cases of theft from motor vehicles which has been on an increase especially in Lusaka. During the operation, four people were arrested for possession of suspected illicit drugs. The drugs were found inside the four motor vehicles and the suspects have since been handed over to the Drug Enforcement Commission for further Investigations,” he said.

He added that all the impounded motor vehicles are parked at the Police Station while investigations are ongoing.
