The United Party for National Development (UPND) and Socialist Party-related electoral violence in Serenje has been denounced by the Governance, Elections, Advocacy, and Research Services (GEARS) Initiative Zambia.
Election districts being used as battlefields worries GEARS Programmes Coordinator GIDEON MUSONDA.
Speaking to ZNBC News in Lusaka, Mr. MUSONDA claimed that politicians and other cadres using weapons, such as guns, is frightening and poses a serious threat to national security.
He claimed that the acts of violence undo the progress Zambia had achieved in preserving peace.
According to Mr. MUSONDA, GEARS has urged all Zambians to abhor violence and vehemently condemns it.
He has urged the party’s leaders to take responsibility and demonstrate their sincerity by punishing all of the violent members.
