The Lusaka Magistrate court sentenced a 19-year-old Booth teller to one year and six months in simple jail for servant theft involving more over 70,000 kwacha.
The defendant wagered using the funds provided by her company.
DAINESS MULENGA, who acknowledged to the crime, explained that she originally ran out of money and failed to notify her employer of the situation.
MULENGA testified in court that after receiving some of her employer’s funds, she made an account with a reputable betting site and spent 57 thousand Kwacha in the hopes of winning so she could get back the 20 thousand kwacha that had gone missing.
