The change of electricity pricing, according to chief government spokesperson CHUSHI KASANDA, won’t take place until the second quarter of 2023.
The rate rises, according to Ms. KASANDA, who is also the minister of information and media, will be implemented progressively over the following four years.
She adds that public consultations would be held by the Energy Regulations Board (ERB) prior to any changes being made.
This is stated in a statement that ZNBC news was able to get regarding an update from the Cabinet Meeting that was held on December 15, 2022.
The Minister further stated that because of non-cost-reflective prices, the electrical sector is now not particularly appealing.
Tariff modifications, according to Ms. KASANDA, are crucial because without them, energy sector investment will stagnate, leading to power outages and shortages.
