Police hurried to the incident, according to police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale, and transported the infant to Chongwe District Hospital for care.
“Police in Chongwe received a report of baby dumping in which a member of the public found a baby girl dumped near a footpath in Kakubo village.
The baby was dumped on January 14, 2023 in Kakubo village at an unknown time,” Mr Mwale said.

According to police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale, officers rushed to the scene and took the infant to Chongwe District Hospital for treatment.
“She is alleged to have given birth two weeks ago. Police are investigating circumstances that led to the baby being dumped by the mother and a manhunt for the suspect who is on the run has since been launched,” He said.
