Several prominent Patriotic Front (PF) members from the Livingstone District have switched over to the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND).
A number of PF members left the former ruling party for the UPND, lead by PF 2021 Mayoral Candidate EVANS FENETE, Former Livingstone Mayor AGGREY NJEKWA, and Former PF Provincial Chairlady FLORENCE SITUTU.
The former PF members claim that the New Dawn administration’s economic recovery strategy and its agenda for sector-specific development have drawn them to the UPND.
The defectors were welcomed in Livingstone by CORNELIUS MWEETWA, the UPND’s national spokesperson.
According to Mr. MWEETWA, the HAKAINDE HICHILEMA-led administration is working to turn around Zambia’s misfortunes and restore the country’s credibility both domestically and abroad.
He asserted that the UPND administration had successfully transformed the nation’s economic and governmental structures in several ways in just one year.
Mr. MWEETWA asked party supporters and young people in the nation who are still looking for jobs in a variety of industries to continue backing the administration as it fulfills its election-year pledges.
He exhorted the new members to feel free to get involved in various groups in order to support the party, which has already begun organizing for the general election in 2026.
Additionally, MOSSEN MULENGA, the Livingstone District PF Youth Information and Publicity Secretary, told ZNBC News over the phone that the party members that joined the UPND won’t have any influence on the PF structures.
