In order to increase the wildlife population, the Ministry of Tourism said it will refill six national parks across the nation.
The restocking operation will benefit the Mosi-oa-Tunya, Kafue, Lower Zambezi, Nsumbu, South, and North Luangwa National Parks, according to Tourism Minister RODNEY SIKUMBA.
According to Mr. SIKUMBA, the country is presently in its breeding season, which will terminate in May before the distribution of animals to national parks is carried out.
He adds that the Ministry purposefully proposed an incentive for the importation of breeding stock for wildlife in the 2023 National Budget in order to increase the animal population.
In an interview with ZNBC News today in Lusaka, the Minister made this statement.
In order to conserve the country’s ecosystems, he has urged Zambians to establish private wildlife ranches in collaboration with private investors.
Mr. SIKUMBA also advised traditional leaders to establish community game ranches so that residents will feel a sense of ownership.
