The number of tourists visiting the Victoria Falls in Livingstone increased by 48 percent in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same time in 2012.
According to Richard Mbewe, acting director of the National Heritage Conservation Commission’s South West District, the Victoria Falls saw about 37,000 tourists in the first quarter of 2023, up from 25,000 during the same period in 2202.
According to Mr. MBEWE, the number of international visitors has climbed by 137%, from 3,600 to around 8,600.
According to Mr. MBEWE, the rise is the result of the COVID 19 protocols being lifted, allowing people to move around more freely.
He has also ascribed the rise to the regular local and international conferences conducted in Livingstone, whose participants also travel to tourist attractions.
As many people are anticipated to travel to the tourism hub throughout the Easter break, Mr. MBEWE anticipates the numbers to rise even more.
