2024 DStv champ of champs launched

The 2024 edition of the DStv Ekasi Champ of Champs was launched on Thursday at the SuperSport studios in Randburg.

The 3rd edition will still be played in Soweto, but the opening round has been moved to a different venue, known as Number 2 grounds in Orlando.Chego FC from Tshwane were the inaugural winners of the tournament in 2022, with Mpumalanga side, Phaphama FC, being crowned champions in 2023.

This year’s tournament sees the return of crowd favourites A T Mambas FC, who competed in the 1st edition of the tournament.

A Familiar name will be Skepe Nketole, known as the helicopter boys, because the team gets dropped off at the stadium by chopper 15 minutes before kick-off.

At the 2023 edition of the Phillys games, the Skepe players’ helicopter landed in the middle of the Ma7 grounds in Ivory Park to the delight of their fans. Skepe will represent Central Gauteng in the competition.

There will be six other teams competing in the tournament. The western region of Gauteng will be represented by The Tricky Boys FC, Shaka United FC were the champions of the northern region of the Province, Aston Villa FC is from eastern Gauteng and Major One FC is a team from the south of Gauteng.

P and S Academy travel from Limpopo and the province of KwaZulu-Natal will be represented by Newcastle Young Chiefs.

Mambas FC come into the tournament as the Viewers Choice to make up the eight teams for the tournament

The tournament will be played from the 11th to the 21st July, with the final set to be played at the Dobsonville Stadium.

The winners of the tournament will walk away with the prize money of R200 000 and the coveted trophy, all matches will be live on SuperSport channel 202 & 209
