In memory of the nine former players and officials who lost their lives in a traffic accident in 1980, the Profund Warriors Memorial Monument Committee has started a fundraising campaign to gather K600,000.
On August 18, 2023, the Committee will hold a ceremony to recognize the 12 players who survived the car accident.
Three events, including a football game between opposing political parties and a madalas match, have been planned ahead of time, according to BONI MUBUKWANU, chairman of the Profund Warriors Memorial Monument.
He was addressing Thursday at the National Heritage Conservation Commission’s offices in Lusaka, when the fundraising campaign was officially launched.
MUBUKWANU stated that President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA will be invited to attend the ceremony by the Committee.
He continued by saying that the artifacts of the first Republican President KENNETH KAUNDA will also be put up for auction.
Robert Mulangu, one of the survivors, expressed excitement about taking part in the Madalas March.
There are already more than 4,000 heritage sites in the nation, according to MAXWELL ZULU, acting manager of information and public relations for the National Heritage Conservation Commission.
ZULU has urged members of the public to alert the Commission about any information they may have seen on other websites so that it can be gathered.
