Rebels Supported by Rwanda Are Creating Ethnic Divisions – HRW

As a result of violence involving a militia that Rwanda is alleged to be supporting, Human Rights Watch has issued a warning that tensions between communities of ethnic Tutsi and Hutu in eastern DR Congo are at risk of dangerously rising.

It claims that the M23 armed group has engaged in forced civilian recruitment and summary executions.

According to the rights organization, the militia is allegedly committing more and more war crimes. It demands a halt to all military assistance to Rwanda.

The M23 group’s support from the Kigali administration has been denied.

The Congolese army, according to Human Rights Watch, has been collaborating with a number of armed organizations, notably Hutu militias with a history of abusing its members.
