ZESCO United open gap at top of MTN Super League

ZESCO United have opened up a five-point lead at the top of the MTN Super League table following a thrilling 3-2 victory over winless bottom side Trident on Saturday. ZESCO took advantage of a slip-up by Red Arrows at home to Green Eagles to put some daylight between them and the chasing pack.

Enock Sakala Jr gave them the lead against Trident, who equalised from the penalty spot early in the second half via Walaza Tembo. That was the way it stayed until six minutes from fulltime, when John Chingandu restored the ZESCO lead and the unfortunate Kanamuli Kapilimba put the ball into his own net to make it 3-1.

Lassa Kiala gave Trident hope in injury-time, but ZESCO were able to hold on for an important win.  Arrows were stunned at home by Eagles, who took the lead through Freddy Michael. Alassane Diarra equalised before halftime for Arrows, but Gift Mwansa netted the winner for the visitors.

Nkwazi took advantage of that slip-up to move into second place with a 1-0 away win at Prison Leopards, who have now lost three games in a row. Brian Masanyinga scored the only goal of the game midway through the first half.

FC MUZA are in fourth place following a 1-0 victory over Kansanshi Dynamos. Mwiya Mwiya netted the winner after 30 minutes.

Champions Power Dynamos got back to winning ways with a 3-1 success away at Mufulira Wanderers.

Kondwani Chiboni scored early for Dynamos but Owen Mwamba equalised for the home side. Goals in the second half from Frederick Mulambia and Godfrey Ngwenya sealed victory for their side.

Moro Amenu and Quadri Kola were on target for Forest Rangers in a 2-0 win over Green Buffaloes, while NAPSA Stars and Konkola Blades played to a 0-0 draw.
